A large percentage of the erotic games are produced by smaller, independent developers who can be severely affected by having their products taken down on the largest digital distribution platform for video games. Regardless, this change is significant as it could signal a shift in digitally distributed erotic video games. This move could signify that they are moving away from this endeavor to instead migrate over to the Polish platform. MangaGamer has long been working towards producing their own digital distribution platform specifically for games affected by Valve’s inconsistency with their own rules concerning adult content. GOG, a wholly owned subsidiary of publisher CD Projekt, has steadily been expanding their market share as a digital distribution service, considered by many to be the second biggest of its kind after Steam. In response to the controversy, prominent publishers of Japanese or Japan-inspired visual novels, MangaGamer and Sekai Project have announced that they have struck a deal with GOG.com to sell their games on their platform. Despite Valve later following up to these companies with apologies and to disregard the warnings, this is an issue that has never been completely addressed by the company.

As to why Steam suddenly decided to issue warnings to some of the older games after years of no issues is still undetermined. The games affected are mostly erotic Japanese or Japanese inspired romance focused visual novels, ranging from popular long-running games like HuniePop released in early 2015 to Re Lord 1 which only came out in March of this year. This has been a long, recurring issue with the digital distribution provider and has popped up again recently, with several popular erotic games being targeted with take-down warnings for supposedly pornographic content, despite being censored to adhere to Steam’s policies. The standing issue is that these rules are very inconsistent in enforcement, allowing some games through and keeping others out. Specifically, they do not allow video games with graphic nudity or any sort of content that can be considered pornographic. Valve has been against allowing video games with pornographic material to be sold on their platform uncensored. I wasn't even aware that Ava and Shields had gone beyond kissing when they were in school together until I saw mention of it in forum discussions. The relationship with Steam and adult content in video games has long been a tumultuous one. There's no sexual content in the game outside of Claude's dialogue and the OP. I'm fine with things like the mindstream scene, mind you, especially since that manner of depicting one's mind is such a staple of the mecha genre that Sunrider is largely based on.ġ7:48:52 GMT -8 Sorzo said:Mask of Arcadius still has the shower scene (or at least a truncated version of it I've only played the censored versions), but that's it. It'd be very easy to implement and would be a nice alternative for those of us who just want a space opera with a bit of clean romance. Liberation Day has the shower scene and a mostly obscured depiction of the Shields/Chigara scene from the point of view of Asaga.įrankly, I'd prefer it if even shower scenes and the like had a censor option, though preferably one that still includes the narration and dialogue, even if they're set to just a black screen.
