While it’s likely only a portion of these pre-orders will result in actual sales, the automaker will likely be pleased to see the Hummer EV generating this kind of interest. This decision was made in response to higher than expected initial demand for the vehicle, with the automaker receiving a sizable 59,000 pre-orders by early February of this year. GM previously outlined plans to produce roughly 23,000 examples of the GMC Hummer EV Pickup this year, which was more than it had initially planned to build. GM also said previously that roughly 70 percent of GMC Hummer EV reservation holders have never owned a battery-electric vehicle before. The states with the most reservations so far are California, Florida and Texas – with the latter two serving as an indication the vehicle may be popular in states that have not recorded a large percentage of EV registrations in the past.
Of those 80,000 reservations, roughly 42 percent were from customers who are new to GM, while 75 percent are new to the GMC brand. The pre-orders continue to roll in, as the automaker confirmed in its Q2 2022 earnings report that it now has roughly 80,000 reservations for the Hummer EV on its books. In April, GM revealed that it had received roughly 70,000 reservations for the GMC Hummer EV, across both the Pickup and SUV model lines.
